IOWA LIONS DISTRICT 9NE
District Governor - Paul Scherner
I was born and raised on a farm in western Iowa near Holstein. I graduated from Holstein High School in 1965, and in 1969, I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in Cedar Falls, Iowa with a B.A. in secondary math education. I also received my M.A. in math education from UNI in 1976. I taught mathematics at both the junior high and college levels for a total of forty (40) years.
In January 1977, I joined Lions Club International as a charter member of the Dubuque Evening Lions Club. I have held most of the club officer positions, and I have served on the District Cabinet several times. I am a Melvin Jones recipient and a graduate of the Great Plains Leadership Institute in 2009. This decision to join Lions was, is, and will always be one of my best!
My wife, Joyce, and I have been married for 37 years. We have two adult children … our son, Ryan (33) lives in Chicago and our daughter, Laura (29) lives in Baltimore. Both are engaged and will be married this year – Ryan in June and Laura in September. My outside interests are tennis and working outside with the landscape.
Thanks for the opportunity to serve as your District Governor. I hope we will be “A Beacon of Hope” to many new Lions, communities, as well as to each other!
